Tell us a bit about yourself
I am Stephen (Steve) Whyman, I am semi-retired after working for over 38 years with a global telecommunications company.
What do you do within your volunteering role/roles?
Currently, I am volunteering at the Avanti Meadows Vaccination Centre in Bishops Stortford, my roles are Steward & Lateral Flow Test Admin. These roles involve meeting and greeting the public upon arrival at the centre, car parking duties, assisting colleagues on the lateral flow tests. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, I have volunteered at various events for charities.
How long have you been a volunteer?
Why did you decide to start volunteering?
To give something back to society, to help others that are going through rough times.
Why would you recommend volunteering to others?
It gives you a great sense of achievement in knowing you are playing a small part to help in the grand scheme of things.
Is there anything you’ve been doing specifically relating to or because of Coronavirus that you’d like to tell us about?
Yes, meeting the public when they are arriving at the centre and they are feeling a little nervous, it is also great to see them after having the vaccination with a big smile on their faces.
